Team Manager - Shrewsbury
A strategic alliance has been formed between Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police in order to enable both forces to meet the challenge of reducing policing budgets. By working more closely together the forces will benefit from greater operational and organisational resilience, making us the fourth largest geographic police area in England and Wales.
West Mercia Youth Offending Service operates across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire, covering a youth population of approximately 112,800 (10 to 17 year olds). The service is hosted by the Office of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the four local authorities and is currently the only youth justice service in such a hosting arrangement nationally. Services are delivered from multi-disciplinary teams aligned to the four local authority areas.
An opportunity has arisen for Team Manager to lead our team and work in Shropshire. The person appointed will be joining the service at a crucial time following a service re-structure and the implementation of AssetPlus, providing the opportunity to a participate in and lead development work both in terms of the local team, but also in defined areas of policy and practice across the whole service. As the local manager you would additionally be responsible for maintaining good partnership work in the locality and working towards better joint working practices between the youth justice service and other agencies. The successful candidate will hold a professional qualification in a criminal justice and/or social care related area, at degree/diploma level or equivalent and have an operational knowledge of the legal, policy and practice context for Youth Justice provision.
The person specification requires candidates to have a professional qualification in a Criminal Justice and/or Social Care related area – at degree/diploma level or equivalent. The person specification is currently under review and we would also welcome applications from candidates who may have the following qualifications as an alternative to those in the person specification; a professional qualification in social work, youth work, education or relevant health discipline or a degree or level 6 qualification in youth justice, law, criminology, sociology, psychology, social policy or relevant health discipline.
It is essential that candidates have an operational understanding of the legal, policy and practice context for Youth Justice provision gained through direct work experience in a youth justice setting.
It is envisaged that the person specification review will not result in changes to either the grade or location of the post.
